'Guate Make A Difference' began in August, 2011 as a ministry designed to help the women in the community of Magdalena Milpas Altas, Guatemala, to learn about God and his love for them while developing skills and a means to help support their family. When the ministry began, the ladies gathered on a weekly basis for a Bible Study and refine their skills as they continue to loom knit scarves and were paid for every scarf they made. The scarves are sent to the US and are available for purchase with 100% of the proceeds being returned to the ministry to help provide an income for the women and to purchase supplies. Beginning in 2015 we are taking the ministry a step further with the Bible Study going a little deeper, as the women learn the truth of God's Word and discuss their struggles and how God is teaching them to overcome. We have also made some changes to the scarf making portion of the ministry, where we will teach the women to use the skills they have been taught and educate them in making, selling and developing a business plan to be able to have their own, self-maintained business to provide an income for their family. This ministry has been a prayer of mine since I began serving in the mission field in 2003. With a desire to help, I kept asking God 'How can I make a difference?' Now God has changed my questions of 'How' to 'Got to' by teaching me that sometimes we need to stop asking and waiting for something to happen and put faith into action by fulfilling the desires He has placed in our hearts. Since the this ministry is part of His plan, we changed the name from 'Got to make a difference' to 'Guate Make A Difference'. It is our prayer for God to pour his abundant blessings on the people of this poverty filled land and that all will serve The One True God! Back to previous page |
